Mad AMX: Mike Loboda's 1970 AMC AMX

The drag strip has long been dominated by automatic transmissions and delay boxes. Not for Mike Loboda, though. Director of the U.M.T.R (United Manual Transmission Racers) North region, Mike is dedicated to high-rpm clutch dumps and lightning-fast power shifts. His wheel-standing weapon of choice? This 1970 AMC AMX that combines ’70s show car style with take-no-prisoners 1/4-mile performance.

Heavy Hitter: Mike Rhodes’s 2016 Challenger R/T

Mustang versus Camaro, Ferrari versus Lamborghini, Camry versus Accord—the spirit of competition has been an essential part of the car scene ever since some guy named “Benz” traded in his team of horses for internal combustion. But what happens when we set our differences aside and build a car that draws inspiration from every corner of the automotive landscape?

Patricia Goff's 1969 Chevy Z/28 Camaro

When husband and wife gearheads Cliff and Patricia Goff of Ravenna, Ohio, purchased a 1969 Camaro Z/28 more than two decades ago, they had big plans: convert it into a drag car so Patricia could go head to head against Cliff’s seasoned 1969 Camaro.

Michael and Rhonda Cooney's 2015 Camaro Indy Pace Car Convertible

This 2015 Indianapolis 500 Camaro Pace Car Convertible, owned by Michael and Rhonda Cooney of Rootstown, Ohio, is #46 of 50 Pace Car Camaros to appear at the Brickyard that year.

“We were looking for a ZL1 when this popped up at a local dealership,” Michael explained. “We had an Inferno Orange 2012 SS convertible and a 25th Anniversary SS coupe. It's never trailered.”

Darryl Redd's 1969 Chevy Camaro SS Pro Touring

The 1969 Chevy Camaro is arguably the most popular muscle car to ever roll off the assembly line. Take Darryl Redd’s modified 1969 Chevy Camaro SS Pro Touring, for instance.

Redd’s passion for performance vehicles started young. As a high schooler, his interest in cars gained traction while working as a gas station attendant—back when service meant full service. He gained valuable mechanical skills working at a Chevy dealership, and these skills served him well when he later opened a Goodyear Tire and Service Center and classic restoration business.

Over the span of his career he’s worked on hundreds of cars—so many that when pressed about exact figures his answer is merely, “there’s far too many to list.” That said, there’s always room for one more—especially when it’s a 1969 Chevy Camaro just begging to be modified.

Ed Davies' 1952 Studebaker Commander Convertible

You could say it was destiny that made the Studebaker Ed Davies’ ride of choice. He grew up only a few blocks from Mack’s Auto Sales in Akron, Ohio—one of the oldest Studebaker dealerships in the city. This gave the young car enthusiast a front row seat to every new model of Commander, Champion, and Land Cruiser that rolled off the manufacturer’s South Bend, Indiana assembly line.

Ask Davies how many Studebakers he has owned over the years and he answers with a single word: Many.

“I have been a Studebaker guy all my adult life,” said the Bath, Ohio resident.

Talent Show: Brad Swaney's 1971 Chevy C10

From bumper to bumper, Brad Swaney’s 1971 Chevy C10 is pure hot rodding perfection. It wears a mind-blowing custom orange finish, plus there’s a big, bad Chevy 454 in the immaculately prepared engine bay, and a smooth-as-glass black walnut deck in the short bed. In fact, everywhere you look Brad’s incredible talent shows through. You just know he’s been at it for a while, and you’re right. But what might surprise you is…he’s only 22.

Dan Carter's 2018 Superlite Coupe

Dreamt up by the folks at Race Car Replicas, Dan Carter's 201 Superlite Coupe gives a nod to the body design of the infamous Mercedes Sauber C9 Le Mans race car—but it’s no stranger to fame itself. The three year build process gained international interest for Carter's Superlite Coupe with fellow car builders in Europe, Australia, and the US.

On the Turntable: Lewis and Vanette Kreider's 1924 Dodge Brothers Touring Car

The recent passing of Lido Anthony “Lee” Iacocca at age 94 resonated throughout the automotive world. Everyone from Blue Oval devotees to those who knew him through his frequent TV commercial appearances (“If you can find a better car, buy it”) mourned the loss of this visionary who helped design the first pony car and brought the Chrysler Corporation back from the brink of disaster in the 1980s.

The news of Mr. Iacocca’s death had special meaning for Lewis and Vanette Kreider. The Akron, Ohio, couple own a 1924 Dodge Brothers Touring Car that once belonged to the man whose name will be forever linked with the Mustang, the K-Car, and the Chrysler minivan.
