EMPI engine cases are all new construction with numerous design features added in right from the start. These cases are designed for performance engines, particularly those found in air-cooled VWs, where a stronger and more efficient engine case is a significant upgrade over a standard one. They are fully CNC-machined following strict quality control standards. The "bubble top" design likely improves airflow and helps dissipate heat more effectively than stock cases, which is crucial, especially for high-performance engines. The "heavy-duty" designation indicates the cases are built to withstand the increased stress, often using a stronger material like AS41 magnesium alloy. EMPI's selection of cylinder heads includes dual port GTV-2s and stock units for your air-cooled VW engine. GTV-2 dual port cylinder heads are available with different specs to out-class the competition. Each head offers aluminum alloy construction with beefed-up intake and exhaust ports to allow massive porting without the need for welding, and a 3-angle performance valve job. GTV-2 dual port heads are assembled with 40 x 35.5mm stainless steel Manley valves, single or dual Hi-Rev valve springs, chromoly retainers, hardened keepers, rocker, exhaust and intake studs. They have 12mm 3/4 in. spark plug holes. EMPI stock dual port heads are offered complete or "bare". Both have 14mm 1/2 in. spark plug holes, are SCORE-approved, and include rocker, exhaust, and intake studs. Complete heads also include 85.5mm bores assembled with 35.5 x 32mm OEM OSVAT stock valves, stock valve springs, steel retainers, and hardened keepers. The heart of any hi-performance engine is the crankshaft. EMPI's counter-weighted crankshafts provide several benefits, including reduced crank-flex, harmonics, and vibration for smoother operation, as well as higher RPM performance. EMPI engine oil breather kits are designed to reduce crankcase pressure, eliminate blow-by and oil loss. High revving modified engines require more crankcase ventilation than the stock breather can supply. With the EMPI aluminum oil breather kits the blow-by oil is collected in the foam filter, and the air vapors are vented to the atmosphere. New features include the EMPI logo cast in the top, an improved heavy-duty breather hose, plus internal changes that include a screen mesh shelf to elevate the foam filter element.
