Jeep snorkel kits move the engine air intake opening from under the hood to above the roofline, preventing water from entering the engine during stream crossings or other situations where your rig might go for a swim. Installing a snorkel kit—sometimes called a fording kit—on your Jeep Wrangler JK, JL, or Gladiator JT will reduce the risk of severe engine damage due to hydro-locking from non-compressible water. Snorkels are usually made of molded plastic and designed to be attached to a stock or aftermarket air filter box. From there, the snorkel extends through the hood or fender and up the windshield frame or A-pillar, where it is secured. Depending on the kit, body panel modification may be necessary to give the snorkel tube a place to pass through.
