The pressure plate is the part of your manual transmission’s clutch that presses the clutch disc to the engine’s flywheel, allowing engine power to transfer to the transmission. Normally, the pressure plate’s spring tension holds the disc against the flywheel. When you step on the clutch pedal, the springs are compressed by the throw-out (or release) bearing, and the disc is disengaged from the flywheel.

There are three main kinds of pressure plate:
Diaphragm-style pressure plates are found on a lot of late model cars. Inside, a single spring (called a Bellville spring) presses against the disc. They require minimal pedal effort and are inexpensive, so they’re ideal for daily drivers, but they lack the extreme holding power required by some levels of competitive driving.
Borg & Beck-style pressure plates use 12 coil springs to press against the disc, and three sturdy levers to release. They can engage under high speeds and loads, but the clutch pedal tends to feel stiffer and requires more strength to depress.
Long-style plates work like Borg & Beck plates, but with weighted levers that turn centrifugal force into extra holding power. They deliver competitive holding power without excessive pedal effort.
Summit Racing only partners with trusted brands, so any pressure plate you order will fit and perform as advertised. Shop from manufacturers like RAM, McLeod, Centerforce, Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT), Tilton, and more.

RAM clutches for 'stock clutch rule' classes give you unmatched performance and durability. The 10.5 in. diameter assembly utilizes a billet aluminum pressure ring with a riveted steel heat shield that provides a durable mating surface for the clutch disc. A 3,000 lb. pressure spring provides increased static pressure over stock clutches. Used in conjunction with a RAM 6-paddle solid hub disc, this combination weighs in at just over 15 lbs. If your rules require a full facing or sprung hub disc, the RAM 300 Series organic racing disc provides the best holding power of any organic disc available and adds only about 2 lbs. to the total weight of the set. RAM offers a lightweight 17 lb. billet steel flywheel for Chevrolet that matches the above components. If you are required to use all-steel components, RAM offers a similar 10.5 in. pressure plate with a nodular iron pressure ring. This unit uses the same heavier pressure spring for increased holding power. All RAM street stock clutches are completely rebuildable.

RAM offers super-duty clutch pressure plates in a variety of styles and sizes. The Long Style is the preferred pressure plate for competition. Each unit provides a combination of static and centrifugal pressure, and these characteristics enable the clutch to meet the car needs and track conditions. Long style clutches provide additional pressure through centrifugal force of the levers against the pressure ring. Pressure plates are available in a variety of static pressures including non-adjustable, adjustable static, and counterweight to allow precise clutch tuning. All competition long units feature a heavy cover with spring guides. Order the model recommended for your year/make and engine application.
