Leaf springs are fine for stock street vehicles, but performance driving and power adders can expose their weaknesses. Rotational torque from hard acceleration can cause the rear axle housing to bend the rear springs; this condition is called axle wrap. It can cause the rear suspension to “squat,” create a loss of traction, and even break the springs.

Rotational torque from hard acceleration can cause the rear axle housing to bend the rear springs; this condition is called axle wrap. It can cause the rear suspension to “squat,” create a loss of traction, and even break the springs.
There are several ways to combat axle wrap, and the right method for your application depends on a wide variety of factors. Suspension torque arms perform the job by tying together the rear axle housing and the rear of the front subframe. They’re great if you don’t have the room for a 4-link above the axles (or just don’t want to cut the floor or lose the back seats), and they’re ideal for road course racing as well.
