As your leaf springs flex, the distance between the ends change, so the connections have to flex as well. The hanger is the bracket that attaches to the vehicle, and the shackle is the link between the hanger and the end of the leaf spring. If off-road action is your passion, you’ll want to beef up your leaf spring shackles and hangers to handle the greater stresses, or use a shackle flip kit for lift and greater range of motion. If you’re stepping up to bigger wheels and tires, you may need offset shackles to make room.
