Engine Works 12-Point Head Stud Kits for GM LS
Engine Works 12-point head stud kits for GM LS engines are high-strength fasteners designed to replace stock headbolts, providing superior clamping force for high performance, boosted, or high-compression builds. Machined from 42CrMo or 8740 chromoly steel with 220K psi tensile strength, these components prevent head gasket leaks and head lift, featuring 12-point nuts for easier installation and improved torque accuracy. Order the kit recommended for your year/application. Key details: * Kits are available for various GM Gen III and IV LS-based engines, including 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L (LS1/LS6), 6.0L, and 6.2L engines * A full set usually includes 17 long studs, 5 medium, and 10 short studs, along with hardened parallel washers and 12-point nuts * Constructed from high-strength steel with a black oxide finish to resist corrosion, the hardware offers a 220,000 psi tensile strength rating * Ideal for upgrading from stock torque-to-yield bolts, these replacements increase clamping force, reducing the risk of cylinder head failure under high cylinder pressure * Installation: 12-point nuts allow for easier socket access in tight engine bays compared to standard hex nuts * These kits are often used for rebuilding LS engines in trucks (Silverado, Sierra), SUVs (Tahoe, Yukon), and performance cars (Camaro, Firebird, C5 Corvette) from 1997-2003 (Gen III) and 2004+ (Gen IV)

Engine Works Torque-to-Yield Head Bolts
Engine Works torque-to-yield (TTY) headbolts are specialized, single-use fasteners designed to stretch permanently beyond their elastic limit during installation, ensuring precise, consistent clamping force for modern engines. Unlike conventional bolts, they're tightened to a specific angle, not just torque, preventing head gasket failure. Kits are available for a variety of applications, including many Chevrolet engines from 1999 and up. Key details: * TTY bolts are designed to stretch plastically (permanently) into their "yield zone" to achieve optimal clamping force, meaning they cannot be reused * They're installed by tightening to a low torque value, followed by one or more 90-degree angle turns * Commonly used in modern aluminum engines with cast iron blocks (i.e. LS, Hemi, Coyote) to manage different thermal expansion rates * Advantages: Provide superior, consistent clamping load across the entire engine block, reducing the risk of head gasket failure in high performance or high-heat applications * Using specialized tools like a torque angle gauge is required for proper installation of these fasteners

Engine Works Pro Series Head Bolt Kits
Engine Works Pro Series headbolt kits contain high performance, ultra-strong fasteners designed for competition engines. Rated at 190,000–200,000 psi, they're cold-forged from 8740 chromoly steel, featuring 12-point heads, reduced wrenching, and hardened, parallel-ground washers to provide superior, consistent clamping force. Kits are available for a variety of Chevrolet engines from 1955 and up. Key details: * These bolts are significantly stronger than factory options and typically superior to Grade 8, preventing head gasket failures * 12-point design: Bolts feature a reduced wrenching hex or 12-point head, which allows for easier installation in tight spots and better torque application * Unlike many factory torque-to-yield (TTY) bolts, these are often reusable, making them ideal for engines that may be serviced or upgraded frequently * Many kits feature undercut bolts, which provide more "stretch" to better handle the increased compression of high performance gaskets * Machined from 8740 alloy steel, providing exceptional tensile strength and molecular integrity * Components: -- Full set of cylinder head bolts -- Hardened, parallel-ground washers (for even load distribution) -- Assembly lubricant to ensure accurate torque readings * Common applications: -- High-performance street cars, race cars, and street-mod engines -- Commonly used in GM LS, Ford, and other popular domestic engine builds where high cylinder pressures are expected -- These kits are specifically designed for high performance applications where the reliability of the cylinder head-to-block seal is critical, such as in forced induction or high compression engines
