They feature HSBS—Hot Stamped Boron Steel—construction, an ultra-high strength, press-hardened steel used in automotive applications for passenger impact protection because it is lightweight with an extremely high-yield strength (approximately 200,000 ksi vs. mild steel at 25,000 ksi). Depending on the vehicle application, some AEV skid plates will be made of steel tubing or 1 in. DOM tubular steel construction and finished with an OEM 2-stage, corrosion-resistant coating.
