Input housing failure at the shaft and forward piston areas is common in high-torque 4L60, 4L60-E, 4L65-E, and 4L70-E transmissions. Also, the input drum assembly is known to crack and strip out splines where the input shaft is pressed into it (where the overrun piston rides). Sonnax input housing sleeve kits—forward sleeve kits and overrun sleeve kits—when used in combination with each other, greatly increase the maximum strength of the housing for additional torque capacity and can prevent these failures. Sonnax TCC regulator and isolator valve kits assist in recovering hydraulic control and renew TCC performance. Severe wear of the TCC (torque convertor clutch) regulator valve bore, caused by oscillation of the OE valve, allows the regulated converter to apply pressure to your exhaust. This is a primary cause for TCC-related slip code and overheated converters. Exhaust pressure also diminishes line pressure, which can result in burnt clutches. Excess wear at the isolator valve bore reduces TCC apply pressure. Since the GM 4L60 (700-R4) and 4L60-E Series transmissions were introduced, they have had inadequate metering of 2nd gear band servo release oil resulting in 3-4 clutch pack failure. The 3-4 clutch pack and 2nd gear band are just not properly synchronized. GM 6L80 and 6L90 transmissions often suffer failure of the 4-5-6 clutch assembly due to flexing and bowing of the backing plate (coning)—especially when your clutch-apply pressures exceed OE specifications. Vehicles with GM 200-4R and 4L60 transmissions often have problems with poor reverse boost or upshifts in manual low. These are generally caused by a worn reverse boost valve sleeve or wear at the pump body. Sonnax offers a larger ratio (.283 in.) reverse boost valve kit to restore the hydraulic integrity of the assembly. Due to the differences in the thermal expansion rate of steel and aluminum when the transmission approaches operating temperature, the sleeve has been allowed excessive clearance and scrubs the bore.
