Tremec Magnum-F Manual Transmissions
Tremec introduces the Magnum-F 6-speed manual transmissions for fourth-generation Camaros and Firebirds. Designed to replace T-56 transmissions in 1998-2002 GM F-body cars, the Magnum-F leverages Tremec's pervasive TR-6060/Magnum architecture in order to provide fourth-gen enthusiasts significantly improved performance and relief from a shrinking pool of quality T-56 replacement parts. Born in the vacuum created by the release of the original T-56 Magnum (now known simply as 'Magnum') back in 2009, the Magnum-F fills a longstanding void in the overall Magnum line with regard to shifter locations—addressing not only LS1-powered '98-'02 F-bodies, but several other applications that utilize a similar shifter position. Beneficiaries include third-generation F-bodies, LT1-powered fourth-gens, LS-swapped late models of all varieties, and sport compact applications such as A80 Supras, FD RX-7s, and more! Where the original Magnum shifter locations may prove too far forward, and the extended length Magnum XL's too far back, the Magnum-F's in-between position often proves to be just right. Inside, the Magnum-F benefits from the same durable componentry found in many of today's hardest hitting OEM muscle and sports cars. Over the T-56, the Magnum-F transmissions boast increased face-width on all gears, a robust combination of double and triple cone synchronizers, enhanced webbing in the main case, provisions for a cooler circuit, and more! Tremec also took the opportunity to upgrade the shifter to an isolator-type unit, like that found on its Magnum XL. The shifter reduces in-cabin noise and vibrations, while at the same time providing the precise and communicative shift feel that all Magnums are known for. And, like all Tremec aftermarket transmissions, the Magnum-F is made from 100 percent brand-new OEM-quality content. Models with different gear ratios are available. UMI Performance Stage 5 front suspension packages provide a solid foundation for your strip car with occasional street duty. UMI's dual tube K-member is known as the strongest in its class—and can withstand wheel stand landings and street abuse while still shaving weight, as well as protecting the oil pan. The rod end upper and lower A-arms reduce friction and unsprung weight while ensuring super-quick weight transfer. These K-members and A-arms are built from strong DOM tubing, precision-bent, CNC-notched and welded in a jig to form a solid base. Upper and lower A-arms are assembled with PTFE-lined race quality rod ends and premium ball joints. The included adjustable A-arms offer strength, weight reduction, reduced friction, and alignment adjustments when needed. Increased caster for straight-line stability can be achieved very easily with this bolt-in system. Stage 5 includes Viking A226 bearing-mounted front coilovers with double adjustable shocks that allow ride height, compression, and rebound adjustment. The A226s feature bearing ends in place of polyurethane for friction reduction, improved response, and longer lasting performance. Ride height adjustment is accomplished with the included spanner wrenches and thrust washers; while the compression and rebound adjusters are clicked by hand—and feature a total of 361 possible valving combinations. The included springs are 300 lbs./in. and work perfectly on drag race applications and vehicles with front-end weight reduction. The UMI Performance Stage 5 front suspension package is found under many F-body drag cars with single-digit ETs.
