Sonnax Smart-Tech drum modules for racing GM TH400 transmissions improve on-track performance and consistency, leading to quicker ETs, more wins, and greater reliability. The TH400 is preferred for its overall durability and multitude of available ratios, but is known to be heavier and less efficient than the popular two-speed Powerglide. To maximize durability and improve clutch capacity in heavy-duty/performance vehicles, Sonnax offers Smart-Tech direct clutch drum and shaft kits, the first upgrade to eliminate every critical weakness. Most failures in these units occur where the direct drum and stub shaft connect. Even other aftermarket upgrades that rely on a heavy-duty shaft will sheer in this area under extreme conditions. Ford vehicles with C6 transmissions often have oil pan leaks. The original Ford C6 oil pans are made with thin-gauge steel. If the oil pan bolts are over-tightened, the flange at the bolt holes will warp and result in a poor gasket seal. Once the oil pan flange is distorted, it's difficult to repair and get a good seal. Sonnax automatic transmission pans are 25 percent thicker than OE, made of heavy gauge material and will resist warping at the bolt holes. The thicker flange will allow the bolts to be tightened enough to compress the gasket evenly and result in a good seal. Sonnax pans will withstand repeated assembly without damage.
