Stripped bellhousing bolts? The cause is usually the loose fit of standard Torx bits, which damage the bellhousing bolts during removal or installation of the bolts. The solution to this problem is Sonnax Torx Plus bits. Specially designed for removing 4L60E bellhousing bolts, Sonnax bits have a tighter fit with the drive head of the bolt, helping to avoid rounding out the bolt head or the bit, and prevent the bit from walking out of the bolt head. Additionally, in 1999 and later vehicles, the factory EPC pressure was set high at idle, resulting in engine surge conditions in GM 4L80-E and 4L85-E units. GM 6L45, 6L50, 6L80 and 6L90 automatic transmission units may exhibit multiple line pressure and cooler/converter/lube flow problems due to excess wear in the pressure regulator bore. Deterioration at the balance spool end allows critical fluid loss, resulting in high line pressure, harsh shifts, and overheating due to reduced cooler/converter flow. Wear at the outboard spool robs converter feed pressure and lowers line pressure, resulting in soft shifts and burnt clutches. In listed GM transmissions, severe wear of the TCC regulator valve bore from the OE valve allows regulated converter apply pressure to exhaust. This is a primary cause for a TCC-related 1870 slip code and overheated converters. Exhausting apply pressure also diminishes line pressure, which results in burnt clutches. Excessive wear at the isolator valve bore reduces TCC apply pressure. Sonnax isolator sleeve kits (77754-ISO) in combination with Sonnax TCC regulator valve kit 77754-03K or 77754-04K allow you to restore hydraulic integrity of the apply circuit.
