A 4-wheel disc brake upgrade (Corvette-style 4-piston calipers for both front and rear) was offered on the 1968 Camaro as a "heavy-duty service" package sold through Chevrolet car dealers. In 1969, a JL8 package could be ordered as a RPO on production vehicles. These unique, high-end brakes were very rare, being sold on only about 200 production vehicles. Their triangulated design provides the structural integrity required for racing. Made from chromoly or mild steel, the outer shell is 1/8 in. thick, and the faceplate is 1/4 in. thick.
