A worn oil pump drive assembly will probably trigger a check engine light and will make a funny squeaking sound that has been described as a laughing barrel of monkeys, however it is no laughing matter. The factory design poses a lack of lubrication, that could result in premature failure. Crown Automotive oil pump drive assemblies (OPDA) feature redesigned internals to eliminate the problems with the factory units, a seal under the upper bearing which caused the bearing to fail prematurely. Crown's OPDA has the seal relocated to above the upper bearing and an oil groove in the shaft which is designed to bring oil up to both the upper and lower bearings.
