TCI trans-brake kits allow you to achieve maximum torque converter stall for quicker and more consistent reaction and 60 ft. times. They work like this: When the trans-brake is engaged, the vehicle can roll neither forward nor backward, and as you press on the accelerator, the engine can rev as high as the torque converter stall. FTI Performance offers torque converter dump valve kits for a variety of transmission applications, including the GM Powerglide. Typically used in drag racing, a properly designed, tuneable dump valve system lowers the oil level in the torque converter by bypassing charge oil back to the oil pan causing cavitation within the converter. This cavitation reduces the forward thrust generated by the converter against the flexplate—which helps to reduce engine thrust bearing wear, increase available stall speed, engine responsiveness and boost response/transition while staging against a transbrake in forced induction applications.
