Input housing failure at the shaft and forward piston areas is common in high-torque 4L60, 4L60-E, 4L65-E, and 4L70-E transmissions. Also, the input drum assembly is known to crack and strip out splines where the input shaft is pressed into it (where the overrun piston rides). Sonnax input housing sleeve kits—forward sleeve kits and overrun sleeve kits—when used in combination with each other, greatly increase the maximum strength of the housing for additional torque capacity and can prevent these failures.
