GM 6L45, 6L50, 6L80 and 6L90 automatic transmission units may exhibit multiple line pressure and cooler/converter/lube flow problems due to excess wear in the pressure regulator bore. Deterioration at the balance spool end allows critical fluid loss, resulting in high line pressure, harsh shifts, and overheating due to reduced cooler/converter flow. Wear at the outboard spool robs converter feed pressure and lowers line pressure, resulting in soft shifts and burnt clutches. Installing a Sonnax pressure regulator valve kit restores the hydraulic integrity of these circuits for proper line pressure control in all ranges. A new pressure regulator valve outer spring is also included to replace weakened original springs and provide a modest 5 psi increase across the pressure curve. The detent ball in the valve body in listed Chrysler automatic transmissions (see Applications tab) wears into the aluminum bore due to continuous movement and vibration of the linkage. This creates excessive looseness in the manual valve lever and allows the manual valve to move out of alignment. No start or being stuck in Park can occur from the manual valve being out of position due to extra clearance. This condition often requires that the valve body be replaced. Sonnax valve body detent ball and sleeve kits allow the valve body to be salvaged. The bore must be oversized using the self-guiding bench reamer included in Sonnax tool kit 22771-TL12. A .096 in. diameter drill bit is also included to allow the retaining pin hole to be redrilled for use with the OE pin. Sonnax detent spring 22771-36 is also available. Ford E4OD and 4R100 transmissions often display shifting irregularities which can be traced to problems with accumulator control valves. Wear ridges form as the valve moves in and out of the bore. Under high-pressure shifts, the valve is allowed to stroke too far, causing it to hang up on these ridges and block oil flow to the associated clutch. This results in soft shifts, loss of gear, and burnt clutches. Sonnax 1-2 and 2-3 accumulator control valve kits resolve these issues and provide a firmer-than-OE shift quality. (The kit fits either of those two locations.) Why are wheel bearing protectors needed? : Boat trailer hubs get warm while traveling to the ramp. Warm hubs backed into cool water during launching are suddenly cooled, which contracts any air inside the hub—creating a vacuum. The vacuum pulls water and road grit inside the hub, contaminating the grease. This contamination causes corrosion and rapid wear. Perfectly good bearings can be ruined in less than one season. C.E. Smith wheel bearing protectors correct this problem by filling the entire hub with grease. Most air that is trapped inside the hub will be expelled by the bearing protector pressure relief feature. Once the hub is full, the spring-loaded piston in the bearing protector exerts a slight pressure to the grease inside the hub. With the pressure inside the hub slightly higher than the pressure outside the hub, water and grit cannot be drawn inside.
