Performance Street Tires

Most Mustang drivers have at least one interest in common—going fast. High-performance and ultra-high performance Mustang tires are engineered to handle the loads placed on them during high-speed driving and offer advantages like superior grip, crisp handling, stability, and improved cornering. Tire Speed Ratings

All radial tires destined for light vehicles include a tire speed rating in line with the top speed capability of vehicles they are designed to be mounted on. Matching the tire’s speed rating to the vehicle it will be used on is critical to optimizing performance. Designed for use on most sports sedans and coupes, H-rated and V-rated tires can handle speeds up to 130 mph and 149 mph, respectively, making them a good choice for base-model Ford Mustang tires. Tires featuring a Z rating in the size designation (i.e. 245/45ZR17) comprise W-rated tires and Y-rated tires, which are engineered to handle speeds up to 168 mph and 186 mph, respectively.

Track Tires

For those who spend their weekends at the track, drag radials or racing slicks are the way to go. Each type of tire features little to no tread pattern, ensuring the largest possible contact patch for maximum traction. Outfitting your Ford Mustang with wide tires is an effective way to increase grip further, at least in dry conditions. Purpose-built racing tires are inherently poor performers in inclement weather and should not be used for everyday street driving.
