Whether you’re lifting or lowering your ride, suspension blocks are a great way to add a slick custom look to your leaf spring-equipped vehicle. If you want to add ride height, you can select from a range of suspension block sizes—including 2 inch, 3 inch, and 4 inch lift blocks (and beyond). Or, if you’re going for a pavement-scraping look, check out the range of lowering blocks in 1 inch, 2 inch, or 2.5 inch drops (or lower).
Some suspension blocks are sold individually, but you may want to consider picking up new leaf spring U-bolts too, if the kit doesn’t include them. This ensures that your U-bolts will be sized perfectly for your new suspension blocks, particularly if you’ve opted for a more aggressive suspension lift or drop, say, with something like a 6 inch lift block.
Suspension lift or lowering blocks work by adjusting how the rear axle rides on the leaf springs. For instance, in lowering applications, the suspension block often fits below the axle, but on top of the leaf spring. This pulls the axle up towards the body and chassis, resulting in a lower ride height. Conversely, the orientation is reversed for lift applications, moving the suspension blocks below the leaf springs, where they ride on top of the axle. This raises the chassis by moving the axle lower below the leaf spring.
Suspension lift or lowering blocks can be made from several materials, with aluminum, iron, and steel being the most common. As alluded to above, it’s possible that your stock U-bolts may still accommodate the addition of suspension blocks, but it makes sense to measure and make sure. Replacement leaf spring U-bolts are readily available, and a lot of the suspension block kits on this page include the U-bolts already.
Gearheads like suspension blocks because they’re an easy, straightforward way to raise or lower a leaf spring-equipped vehicle. If that sounds like you, check out all of your suspension block options here. While some suspension blocks are universal, many are application-specific, so you can ensure the proper fitment on the vehicle you’re raising or lowering. Make sense?
