Stud-mounted rocker arms are the middle option between pedestal-mounted (fine for stock applications) and shaft-mounted (a hardcore racing option for vehicles operating at over 7,000 rpm) rocker arms. They are pressed or threaded into the top of the cylinder head, and the rocker arms are attached to the top. These rocker arm studs resist the valve train flexing generated by higher horsepower, and can be adjusted for ideal geometry. Summit Racing Equipment carries rocker arm studs in many sizes and lengths.

Press-Fit Vs. Threaded

Many engines come from the factory with press-fit rocker arm studs. Once you start making performance modifications, and the open pressure of your valve springs rises over 280 lbs., press-fit studs can loosen. A common upgrade at this stage is to tap the cylinder heads and switch to threaded rocker arm studs. For additional details, check our Help Center article.

Additional Parts

If you need even more strength and stability, consider adding a stud girdle (also called a valvetrain stabilizer). Rocker arm studs are available with locator shanks for pushrod guideplates.
