These aftermarket replacement parts are a re-engineered version of the original part, intended to fix a common design flaw in the factory unit that can cause premature bearing failure and engine damage. Crown's design relocates a seal and adds an oil groove to properly lubricate the upper and lower bearings. Additional details: * Function: These gears are a critical part of the oil pump assembly, which is responsible for pressurizing and circulating engine oil throughout the vehicle. * Improvement over OEM: The original equipment manufacturer design had a seal placed in a position that prevented oil from reaching the upper bearing, leading to premature wear and failure. * Design changes: Crown's re-engineered assembly addresses this by moving the seal to a location above the upper bearing and adding an oil groove to the shaft to bring oil to both bearings. * Benefit: By correcting the lubrication issue, Crown's gears help prevent catastrophic engine failure caused by an oil pump failure, which can be an expensive repair.
