MAP Sensors

MAP stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure. The MAP sensor is attached to your intake manifold or throttle body, where it monitors the amount of air flowing into your fuel-injected engine. This allows the computer to fine-tune fuel spray and spark timing to optimize performance, fuel economy and emissions. Some vehicles use a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor instead, which performs a similar task.

A faulty MAP sensor can cause your vehicle to run rich or lean. MAP sensors also operate over a limited pressure range (indicated in psi or bar), so if you’ve made performance modifications involving forced induction, you may need to update your sensor.
