Different engine designs (SBF, BBF, SBC, BBC, LS, Coyote, etc.) use different quantities of main caps, and those caps are held down by main bearing cap bolts. In addition, 2-bolt main caps are common, but 4-bolt mains and 6-bolt mains may be used in high-powered engines for extra strength.
