The hanger is the bracket that attaches to the vehicle, and the shackle is the link between the hanger and the end of the leaf spring. If off-road action is your passion, you’ll want to beef up your leaf spring shackles and hangers to handle the greater stresses, or use a shackle flip kit for lift and greater range of motion. If you’re stepping up to bigger wheels and tires, you may need offset shackles to make room.
