Many classic musclecars were equipped with a mechanical clutch linkage from the factory, which became infamous for the efforts required in stop-and-go traffic, especially with a stronger performance clutch. The mechanical linkage also took up space where exhaust headers could go.

Modern cars use a hydraulic throwout bearing (sometimes called a release bearing) to actuate the clutch, and for lots of good reasons. They allow less play in the pedal, require less effort, even on heavy-duty clutches, and the installation is more compact and flexible, leaving room for headers and other mods. Most are also adjustable, allowing you to customize the pedal feel.

The hydraulic throwout bearing conversion kits carried by Summit Racing Equipment let you update your classic vehicle to contemporary clutch action.
