Stage 8's Grade 8 locking header fasteners use a patented system that consists of a grooved hex-head bolt or nut, a retainer, and a snap clip. The retainer fits over the bolt head and locks the bolt against the header tube, and the snap clip holds the retainer in place. Once Stage 8 header fasteners are tightened down, they won't back out, eliminating leakage and blown header gaskets from loose bolts.

Summit Racing™ split lock bolt kits put a new twist on the theory of mechanical locking fasteners. These innovative bolts use a locking set pin built into the bolt itself—and when tightened, the set pin expands the bolt threads against the thread wall. This, in turn, provides a locking system without having to use any additional wires, locking compounds, or lock washers. To remove the split lock bolts, simply loosen the set pin and back out the fastener. They are available in a variety of thread sizes, for engine applications from the 1950s and up.

Proform self-locking wedge header bolts get a grip on your headers that won't let go—until you're ready! These permanently assembled bolt sets feature special washers with super-hardened serrated teeth that, when torqued to 28 lbs.-ft., bite into and grab the bottom of the bolt head and the top surface of the header. Any bolt-loosening rotation is blocked by the wedge-locking action created by the washers' interfacing cams; but what's really impressive is that engine vibration—the enemy—increases the tension, making them even more secure! The bolts are re-useable and you can count on them to not fail. Proform self-locking wedge header bolts put an end to the constant tightening for a leak-free, headache-free future. They're available in different finishes and sizes for applications from 1965 and up.

Burning your hands on headers or the exhaust manifold when bolting them on just became a thing of the past. Mr. Gasket HEADLOCK locking header bolts simplify header installation with high-strength, 2-in-1 self-locking bolts that eliminate the need for lock washers. Designed for the performance engine builder, these innovative, patent-pending fasteners have 24 equally spaced serrations in the face of the hex head. The bolts grab and lock on to your manifold surface, virtually eliminating the chance that one might back out from vibration or because of the varying expansion rates of different metals. Mr. Gasket HEADLOCK locking header bolts are available for numerous domestic applications, including Chevrolet, Chrysler, Ford, AMC, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac. They're manufactured from stainless steel, designed to withstand tensile strengths of 150,000 pounds per square inch, and come with a bright polished finish.

Installing headers can sometimes be a real pain, due to the tight spaces and the location and shape of the tubes. Mr. Gasket can help make installation a little easier and also help prevent annoying exhaust leaks from under-tightened header bolts. They have both the socket-head and hex-head styles of header bolts available. Hex types are heat-treated Grade 5 steel and have smaller-than-standard heads to ease access in tight spaces. Socket-head bolts are made from stronger Grade 8 steel for added ruggedness and they're great for those really difficult-to-reach spots. Both styles have a protective black oxide finish.

Bolts can work just fine for header installations, but Mr. Gasket's header studs offer some distinct advantages. Most importantly, they help prevent stripped threads in aluminum heads. Beyond that, they also make lining up the headers for installation a lot easier. Some studs have special narrow tips to make that alignment task even easier, and some are made from Grade 8 steel for extra strength. The matching self-locking flange nuts are available in both hex-head and 12-point styles. For corrosion protection, the studs have a black oxide finish, while the nuts are brightly zinc plated.
