Helix Performance F-100 boxing plates are heavy-duty metal pieces designed to reinforce and strengthen the C-shaped steel frames of classic Ford F-100 pickup trucks (usually 1948 to 1979 models). They help prevent the frame from twisting or bending under heavy loads or high performance conditions. What is "boxing" a frame? * The original frames of older pickup trucks are shaped like an open letter "C". This open design allows the frame to flex, which is fine for slow-speed, stock driving. * "Boxing" means welding a flat steel plate across the open side of the "C". This turns the open C-channel into a solid, closed "box" tube. Why use boxing plates on an F-100? * Increased strength: Boxing a frame makes it much stronger and prevents the chassis from twisting. * Handling and performance: If you're upgrading to a modern, independent front suspension (like a Mustang II kit) or adding a high-horsepower engine, the stress on the frame increases.
