AN fittings are sized by the Army/Navy numerical designation which ranges from -2 to -32. This designation refers to the outside diameter of the corresponding AN hose or tube in 1/16 in. increments. For example, a -4 hose has an o.d. of 4/16 in. or 1/4 in. When installing AN-to-An fittings, take care to avoid cross-threading or over-tightening which can cause leaks, damage the fittings, or strip the threads.
