An EGT sensor, or Exhaust Gas Temperature sensor, continuously monitors the temperature of your engine’s exhaust gases as they exit the cylinders. This information can be useful for datalogging or monitoring the engine’s behavior and can also provide valuable information while tuning your engine’s air/fuel ratio, ignition timing, behavior under boost, and more. In vehicles equipped with engine management systems, the readings provided by the EGT sensors can also act as failsafe monitors, implementing engine protection strategies if the exhaust temperatures get too high, too low, or vary too much from cylinder to cylinder.

Some of the most common types of EGT sensors include thermocouple-based sensors and resistance-based sensors. Thermocouple sensors measure the difference between two metals within the EGT sensor probe, creating a voltage reading for the engine computer. These tend to be durable, long-lasting sensors, and are found on many OEM applications. Resistance sensors utilize a temperature-sensitive resistor within the sensor probe, which provides the voltage reading for the engine computer to read. Resistance sensors are extremely precise and are often used in high-performance applications where exhaust gas temperature is critical to ensuring maximum performance.
Summit Racing Equipment carries hundreds of exhaust gas temperature sensors from top manufacturers, along with EGT gauges designed to accurately display temperature readings. Whether you’re replacing a factory OE EGT sensor for your daily driver or adding cylinder-by-cylinder EGT monitoring to a high-horsepower track monster, use the powerful Make/Model or Make/Engine search tools to find the right exhaust gas temperature sensor for your project!
