Choose Your Mustang V6 Exhaust Type

Your first decision when adding a new V6 Mustang exhaust will be to choose which type of exhaust system you want. There are three primary types to choose from: header-back, cat-back, and axle-back.

Header-back Mustang V6 exhaust systems replace all exhaust components from the header collector to the tailpipes. They can offer the biggest performance gains, but tend to be the most expensive. Cat-back Mustang V6 exhaust systems replace all exhaust components from the catalytic converter back. They tend to be the most popular exhaust upgrade because they affect power and sound significantly while remaining emissions legal in most places. Axle-back Mustang V6 exhaust systems include the components from the rear axle to the exhaust tip. They are the least expensive, easiest to install, and still provide sound improvement and power gains over stock.
