Some of the most important elements of your Jeep Wrangler’s suspension are the coil springs. They support the vehicle’s weight and have a huge impact on ride quality, ride height, and off-road articulation. They work in tandem with your shock absorbers to keep your ride safe and comfortable. Whether you want to add room for larger tires (like popular 35-inch or 37-inch tires), capacity for extra gear, or just refresh your tired suspension, Summit Racing Equipment has the springs you need!

Struggling Springs

Usually, broken or worn-out coil springs are easy to detect. Visible cracks, missing or collapsed coils, uneven ride height, leaning to one side, or excessive body movement can all be signs of trouble. Be sure to inspect your entire suspension before making a final diagnosis.

Since springs can’t be repaired, damaged ones should be replaced. For stock replacement coil springs, be sure to verify your Wrangler’s year/generation (TJ, JK, or JL) and position (front or rear) to ensure that you have the proper spring rates at each corner. Also, it’s preferable to replace both springs on an axle, even if only one is damaged. Doing so will keep the ride height even from side-to-side.

Spring Rates Explained

When you’re shopping for coil springs, you may notice manufacturers mentioning “spring rates,” but they don’t always list the exact number. Spring rate is the amount of force you need to compress a spring by a certain distance, usually expressed in pounds per inch. A higher spring rate makes a spring stiffer, while a lower rate is softer. Since you’re shopping for application-specific (Jeep Wrangler) coil springs, you don’t need to know the spring rate you need, because the manufacturers have done that math for you!

Linear rate springs increase resistance by the same amount for every inch of compression. Many aftermarket springs are progressive or triple-rate, which means they start soft, but become stiffer as they compress farther.

Strengthened Springs

There are a few reasons to consider upgraded springs:

  • You may find that the factory ride height isn’t as pleasing to your eye, or that there’s a bit of rake or squat (one end of the Wrangler is higher than the other) you don’t like.

  • Heavy aftermarket equipment—like winches, refrigerators, heavy bumpers, cargo solutions, or towing gear—can also compress your springs, leading to a lower ride height, a rougher ride, and premature spring wear.

  • For serious off-road action, your Wrangler may require a greater range of suspension articulation, greater resilience, and room for bigger wheels and tires. Upgraded coil springs are an important element to a total suspension upgrade, and should be complemented with upgraded shocks, brakes, steering components, etc.
