This helps to prevent potential damage and allowing for a simpler, stronger axle setup. The FAD system in a Jeep JL/JT vehicle is designed to disconnect the front axle when the vehicle is in 2-wheel drive to improve fuel economy and reduce wear on the drivetrain. RCV Performance disconnect block-off kits are used to permanently disable the vacuum-actuated front axle disconnecting feature in vehicles with Dana 30 differentials, which are commonly found in vehicles like Jeep YJ and XJ. These kits allow for a more permanent and simpler 4x4 setup. The kits are designed to essentially bypass the vacuum system that allows the front axle to disconnect when the vehicle is in 2WD, effectively making the front axle permanently engaged. When replacing a two-piece axle with a one-piece axle set, a block-off kit is required to use a one-piece axle set. A typical block-off kits include seals and a plate to cover the vacuum-actuated disconnect mechanism. Some kits are specific to 27-spline axles, while others are designed for 30-spline axles.
