Summit Racing™ Protorque Starters are 100 percent new! Our lightweight Nippondenso-type starters offer a 4.0:1 gear-reduction ratio and a whopping 1.9 HP. That's 222 ft.-lbs of racecar cranking power. If that's not enough cranking power to suit you, there are even more powerful 3.1 hp monsters, which are a pound lighter! They have a 4.44:1 reduction ratio and churn out an awesome 342 ft.-lbs. of torque. Both of our Summit Racing™ powerhouses are suitable for engines up to 502 c.i.d., and compression ratios of up to 18.0:1. GM versions are adjustable for five mounting positions; Ford types, for 18. And, to prevent corrosion and electrical shorts, both starters wear a gold dichromate finish.

Summit Racing™ Full Size High-Torque Starters
Our full size high-torque starters give you 25 percent more torque than your OE starter. On the inside, we gave them specially wound copper field coils, heat-resistant solenoids, low-carbon brushes, and thick-barred armatures for fail-free performance under high-temperature conditions. The rotating assemblies spin on heat-treated shafts that ride in Bendix bearings for reliability and long life. These starters fit all Chevys with a 168-tooth ring gear and a staggered bolt pattern.

Summit Racing™ offers run stand starter adapters for a variety of engine applications—including Ford and Mopar motors from the 1950s and up. Many times, troubleshooting and/or tuning an engine is easiest when the engine is outside the car on a test stand. This allows you to access locations of the engine which are nearly impossible to reach otherwise. The starter adapter enables you to mount the starter to the engine in order to monitor and diagnose issues while the engine is running. Order the adapter recommended for your particular engine.
