The 12th-generation (2009-14) Ford F-150 truck brought evolutionary changes to the F-Series’ exterior styling. At its launch, it was the first time in F-Series history the truck offered no six-cylinder engine options. That changed midway through the 12th-generation as the 3.5L EcoBoost and 3.7L Ti-VCT engines appeared. Though there was never a manual transmission option, Ford introduced its six-speed 6R80 automatic transmission to deliver improved fuel economy. (If you’re less concerned with MPGs, you can also credit this generation with giving us the potent F-150 Raptor.)
