Clevite P-Series Main Bearings
Clevite P-Series main bearings are the oldest members of the Clevite 77 bearing family and are intended for high-revving engines. To compensate for the high-load factors and distortion in these engines, these bearings have higher eccentricity and a high crush factor. P-Series bearings are constructed of tri-metal cast copper lead. They have a steel back for support, a cast copper lead lining to withstand the loads of engine operation, and an electroplated babbit overlay on the running surface to provide searing surface qualities. In addition, the oil grooves on most applications extend all the way around both halves for better oiling. Clevite P-Series main bearings are an ideal design, producing a degree of conformability, embedability, slipperiness, and fatigue resistance, not found in original equipment and competitive bimetal bearings.

They have a solid-bushing chain for a true bearing surface that rolls with the sprockets, eliminating chain stretch. Crank gears are machined from SAE 1144 stress-proof steel. Most Edelbrock Performer-Link true roller timing chain sets have three keyways to ensure accurate timing for early or late model vehicles, and to allow you to set cam timing 4 degrees advanced, 4 degrees retarded, or stock. However, 50-state (stock replacement) sets have single keyways. Edelbrock Performer-Link true roller timing chain sets are not for use above 6,500 rpm.

Speed-Pro Competition Series Main Bearings
If you're building a serious performance engine, then you'll want to consider Speed-Pro Competition Series main bearings. They were developed in NASCAR and Pro Stock competition, so you know they're tough. The bearings are built on premium 1020AK steel backings and overlaid with Speed-Pro's super-duty H-14 alloy. That layer is then covered with a nickel barrier, followed by a thin lead-tin-copper overplate. However, unlike other performance bearings, there is no flash tin layer on top of that. Speed-Pro's engineers have determined that such a layer can actually move around under high loads—sometimes with undesirable consequences.
