The idle air control valve is an electrically controlled device, which gets its input from the vehicle's Engine Control Unit (ECU). These valves are often referred to as idle air control or IAC valves (GM), automatic idle speed or AIS valves (DCX), and throttle air bypass solenoid or AIR valves (Ford).
