Flywheel hot spots can cause chatter—and resurfacing a flywheel doesn't always remove hot spots. The flywheel may appear fine, but the hot spots will often still be there. These stock replacements are machined from ductile iron in different sizes and configurations. They smooth the power output in reciprocating engines, store and deliver energy at higher rates than the source, and control the orientation of a mechanical system using gyroscope and reaction wheel.
