Continuous oscillation in relay valve and sequence valve bore causes wear that prevents proper hydraulic control. You can recover hydraulic control and renew 2nd and 4th gear operation by reconditioning the entire bore and installing a Sonnax oversized 4-3 sequence valve kit. These kits address wear on the inboard two spools that is increasingly more common in aging valve bodies. Wearing at these spools can allow valuable 4th servo feed leakage, resulting in no 4th and 2-4 band wear, and can also allow leakage of 2nd clutch oil needed to apply the 2-4 band in 2nd gear, resulting in poor 2nd gear shifts. Leaking at the OE end plug also allows oil loss that can leave 4th gear inoperable. Sonnax oversized 4-3 sequence valve kits feature hardcoat anodized aluminum valves to combat premature wear and O-ringed end plugs to help prevent 4th gear oil loss. GM 6L45, 6L50, 6L80 and 6L90 automatic transmission units may exhibit multiple line pressure and cooler/converter/lube flow problems due to excess wear in the pressure regulator bore. Deterioration at the balance spool end allows critical fluid loss, resulting in high line pressure, harsh shifts, and overheating due to reduced cooler/converter flow. Wear at the outboard spool robs converter feed pressure and lowers line pressure, resulting in soft shifts and burnt clutches. Installing a Sonnax pressure regulator valve kit restores the hydraulic integrity of these circuits for proper line pressure control in all ranges. A new pressure regulator valve outer spring is also included to replace weakened original springs and provide a modest 5 psi increase across the pressure curve.
