You don’t want to be a one-tire fryer at the track, and welds can weaken your axles—full spools and mini spools are the stronger way to lock your axles together for maximum traction!
Spools (also called full spools) replace your differential carrier and lock the left and right axles together. There are no moving parts, they add support to the ring gear, and they can save unsprung weight.
Mini spools fit inside an existing open differential, replacing the side and spider gears. They’re usually less expensive, but aren’t as strong as full spools.

Spools are an alternative to a locker for traction and performance enhancement. Motive Gear mini spools are a favorite of off-road competitors. A differential with a spool setup delivers equal power and traction to both left and right-side rear wheels. Spool solutions are less expensive than lockers and weigh less. Motive Gear offers a full line of mini spools in the most popular applications for differential modification.
