Sonnax heavy-duty intermediate overrun clutch outer races eliminate weak points. Race failure is a chronic problem with high-torque loads causing race fractures at two stress points: the radial lube holes and the sharp inside corners at the base of the outer splines. Sonnax outer races are engineered with offset lube holes so rollers never travel directly over the holes, and they are spaced so only one roller is ever positioned near a hole, radically reducing the risk of fracture. Other design improvements to the splines, plus upgraded material and a custom manufacturing process, further improve durability, doubling the torque capacity over any OE or other aftermarket races. Sonnax heavy-duty intermediate overrun clutch outer races are direct replacements offering unrivaled reliability at any power level.

Sonnax Smart-Tech drum modules for racing GM TH400 transmissions improve on-track performance and consistency, leading to quicker ETs, more wins, and greater reliability. The TH400 is preferred for its overall durability and multitude of available ratios, but is known to be heavier and less efficient than the popular two-speed Powerglide. Part of the TH400 inefficiency results from the fact that the direct drum counter-rotates, spinning backwards in 1st gear, brakes to a complete stop on the 1-2 shift, then goes from 0 RPM to input RPM on the 2-3 shift. Significant energy is wasted through this cycle that robs power, upsets traction on the shifts, and contributes to broken internal parts. Compared to aluminum direct drums, the Smart-Tech drum module reduces the weight of the counter-rotating components by over 3.3 lbs.! And more significantly, because the weight of the Sonnax counter-rotating parts is closer to the centerline, there's a 68 percent reduction in energy required to stop and restart during the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. The benefits are increased wheel horsepower, better acceleration, less shock on the shifts, and improved durability. * Complete kit (34555-01K) replaces both forward and direct drums and includes everything from intermediate sprag to the pump; a selection of Sonnax input shafts is available separately. * 100 percent new content, no used core pieces * Includes larger-diameter, 36-element sprag and sprag race that works with OE intermediate clutches * Includes six-friction forward clutch pack and seven-friction direct clutch pack Contents: * Forward Piston Housing * Forward Piston * Forward Piston Return Springs (16) * Forward Spring Retainer * Forward Snap Ring * O-Ring 1.674 in. * Lip Seals (2) * Direct Housing Assembly * Direct Piston * Direct Piston Return Springs (26) * Direct Spring Retainer * Direct Snap Ring * O-Ring 2.737 in. * Sprag Shaft * Front Sprag Retainer Plate * Heavy-Duty Sprag 36 Element * Outer Sprag Race * Rear Sprag Retainer Plate * Sprag Retainer Screws (4) 6-32 x 5/16 in. * Quad Ring Seals (2) * Anti-rotation Seal Rings (2) * Drum * Pressure Plate * Outer Snap Rings (4) * Bearing Small * Forward Clutch Hub * Bearing Large * Direct Clutch Hub * Steel Clutch Plates (4) .060 in. * Steel Clutch Plates (11) .077 in. * Friction Clutch Plates (13) .080 in. * Clutch Separators (60) .103 in.

Sonnax case saver retainers are designed for 1999 and later GM 4L80-E units—and are the only intermediate clutch retaining ring case saver that allows the intermediate band to be retained. The case savers fit over the intermediate band anchor lug inside the case and extends rearward to support the intermediate clutch backing plate retaining ring, preventing case lug blow-out. Over the years there have been a variety of case saver designs, however, all required eliminating the intermediate band, as is often done in drag racing trans-brake applications. Only Sonnax case saver retainers support the intermediate clutch retaining ring yet are thin enough to allow the intermediate band to be installed to provide case lug protection in all applications.

Sonnax output shaft supports are high-strength replacements for the stock Powerglide output shaft support. They are made from high-strength 6061-T6 billet aluminum to ensure rigidity where it is needed most. The supports are purposely built for racing, eliminating the provisions for the governor. A high-quality pre-installed roller bearing keeps friction losses to a minimum, while the billet aluminum construction lowers the weight dramatically. The Sonnax output shaft supports can be used with both long and short OEM and aftermarket tailshaft housings to allow for use in almost any drag racing application. They feature a true bolt-on installation for the popular Powerglide transmission and can benefit both bracket ET and professional drag racers.

Sonnax retaining rings are stamped from high-strength, roll-tempered steel, providing additional muscle to resist deflection better than mild steel OE retainers. Successful ET racing requires consistent transbrake release; that usually means utilizing stiffer springs—which leads to the need for stronger spring retainers that won't be deflected. Sonnax no-flex reverse spring retainers are small solutions to faster transbrake response times.

In certain applications there is no way to pilot a reamer to repair a worn valve body, forcing rebuilders to purchase new ones. This patented self-aligning fixture with specially designed tool kits allows these valve bodies to be repaired. The fixture provides an external rigid pilot bore for the reamer and guide pin. The self-aligning feature allows the fixture to be used on multiple valve bodies and valve bores. The fixture base is large enough to provide ample support for the valve body. Various transmissions locate some valve bores in the pump body rather than the valve body. These larger pump bodies do not readily fit onto the standard VB-FIX base plate. Sonnax offers an oversized pump base plate, VB-06, that allows large passenger vehicle pump bodies to be easily mounted and clamped to the VB-FIX for repair. Additional notes: * Patented, unique self-aligning device produces consistent, reliable results and eliminates the potential for reaming failures * Special tool kits have been designed to service a specific valve train bore, and must be used in conjunction with the valve body reaming fixture VB-FIX. Part numbers for these kits begin with an "F-" to distinguish them from the traditional Sonnax tool kits that can be used as standalone tools. * Contents: -- Base plate standard -- Clamp mounting plate -- Clamp plate round -- Outer races (2) -- Inner race -- Studs (3) threaded -- Washers (3) flat -- Wing nuts (3) -- Socket cap screws (4)

The ideal GM TH400 upgrade for any power level, Sonnax heavy-duty forward drums (34554-01) feature a unique combination of high-strength, light weight, and a cutting-edge design to optimize transmission performance. Racing applications quickly push the heavy, cast-iron OE drum over its limits, with failure most common at the weak point where the shaft and drum connect. The problem can be addressed with a larger spline and lighter-weight aftermarket aluminum drum—but durability becomes a huge issue with wear of the clutch splines, shaft spline connection, and seal ring bore. To dramatically reduce weight and deliver the ultimate in reliability, the Sonnax high-strength, chromoly steel drum is custom-engineered with several lightening features for a low rotating mass. It weighs 3 lbs. less than the OE drum and is just 3 oz. heavier than a common aluminum drum. Weight is reduced carefully, without compromising strength, by ribbing the front of the drum, adding clutch splines (28 vs. 14) and lightening holes, plus reducing the diameter inner section of the drum at the middle seal ring area. This versatile drum upgrade has an oversized 28-tooth shaft-to-drum spline and can be used with a variety of input shaft styles. This includes Sonnax 1 in. diameter, 30-spline heavy-duty input shaft 30280-02, Sonnax 1 1/8 in. diameter, 35-spline big input shaft 35280-02, and other aftermarket shafts with 28-spline connection between shaft and drum: * Ultra-modern drum delivers both high-strength and light weight for unrivaled performance at any power level * Compatible with Sonnax and other aftermarket 28-spline input shafts * Optimized for use with rubber clutch separators for applications with clean neutral setups * Clutch spline major diameter is reduced slightly, and two sets of full-length clutch splines added to back up clutch separators * Lightening holes correspond to input speed sensor locations in aftermarket cases for more accurate converter and shift data * Middle seal is eliminated—an aluminum clutch volume spacer kit 34554-11K is available separately for applications in which clutch fill/drain time may be a concern * Sonnax high-RPM checkball capsule 57510-01 is installed to eliminate pressure drop at high (5500+) RPM, a common problem with OE and other aftermarket checkballs

Sonnax anti-wear washer kits prevent metal-to-metal contact. Direct contact between your aluminum Powerglide ring gear and the reverse clutch pack pressure plate causes damage to both components and generates metal debris that circulates throughout the transmission. With the OE design, this is tolerable at original speeds, but is a far greater concern in racing transmissions at higher operational speeds. Sonnax kits include a shim and anti-wear washer that will work with any ring gear that accepts stock-type reverse clutch plates.

Upgrade your transmission's clutch pack with Sonnax automatic transmission clutch steels. These premium-quality steel parts give you the best combination of coefficient of friction and performance. Sonnax offers severe-duty clutch steels for use in a variety of automatic transmissions—including racing applications. These steels are available with up to double the number of external teeth as OE. With more teeth engaged, wear should be reduced dramatically. Anti-drag tabs create the maximum clearance between the friction and steel when the clutch is disengaged. Turbulator holes reduce parasitic drag. Combining anti-drag tabs and turbulator holes significantly reduces the heat generated when the clutch freewheels.
