What Does DIN Mean?

DIN stands for Deutsches Institut für Normung, the German national organization for standards. It standardized the size for dashboard-mounted automotive head units, with a 180mm x 50mm front panel, commonly referred to as a “DIN-size” or DIN radio. Many radios are also available in 1.5 DIN or “double DIN” sizes.

Many auto makers have developed their own standard sizes, so be sure to measure carefully before ordering.
