MSD Three-Stage Retard Controls
MSD three-stage retard controls allow you to retard your ignition timing in three different stages. You can activate one retard for a nitrous stage, and another at top-end in high gear for more mph, and still have another module left over for dual-stage nitrous systems. When activated together, the retard amounts are cumulative, so you get the total of the three. For example, if you pull 2 degrees, then 4 degrees on the second stage, and another 2 degrees at top-end, the total retard is 8 degrees (2+4+2=8). In addition to the individual retard stages, the Three Stage retard controls have an optional start retard function that retards the timing 10 or 25 degrees while cranking the engine. This makes starting high-compression engines with locked-out timing, such as crank trigger systems, much easier. These units easily connect to your MSD Ignition and can be triggered from points, electronic ignitions, crank triggers, or magnetic pickup distributors. They're supplied with a 2, 3, and 4 degree module, and must be used with an MSD 6, SCI, 7, 8, or 10 Series ignition.

MSD Digital Multi-Retard Controls
MSD digital multi-retard timing controls provide four different stages of retard, along with an adjustable start retard feature--with no modules! These units use a high-speed RISC micro-controller to direct the timing functions. This controller can make extremely quick compensations to the timing, while maintaining accuracy to within 1 degree. These circuits are thoroughly de-bounced and isolated for protection against Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI). There is also an innovative magnetic pickup compensation circuit built-in to allow for rock-steady timing with a variety of different mag pickups. There are four separate retard stages that can be activated independently or together for a total sum of retards. Each stage is adjustable from 0-9 degrees, and a maximum of 20 degrees of retard can be pulled out. On top of these great features, there is also an optional start retard circuit that can be programmed to retard the timing 5, 10, 15, or 20 degrees during cranking. Digital multi-retard timing controls can be used on 4, 6, or 8-cylinder engines, and must be used with an MSD ignition control.

MSD Pro-Billet HEI Distributors
The MSD Pro-Billet HEI distributors pick up where the originals left off. Drawing on years of high-performance ignition experience, MSD engineers created a unique ignition module and internal coil that are capable of running above 9,000 rpm. Stock and other aftermarket modules lose spark energy at about 4,500 rpm. These modules produce 50 percent more current than stock units, and deliver a much more precise timing signal as well as more dwell control. The coil delivers over 100 millijoules of energy across the plug gap. For strength and high rpm stability, the QPQ-treated oversized shaft is guided by a sealed ball bearing on top and long sintered bushing at the bottom. The QPQ coating provides a low-friction coating on the shaft and also makes it highly resistant to corrosion. TIG welded to the top of the shaft is an adjustable mechanical advance assembly. The distributors are supplied with extra springs and stop bushings, so you can tailor an ignition curve to match your driving needs. The advance assembly features chromoly weights that slide on nylon pads for smooth timing advancement through the entire rpm range. There is also a vacuum advance canister to improve economy while cruising. All of these features are enclosed in a great looking, billet aluminum housing that is CNC-machined for accuracy and incredible strength. The distributors come complete and ready to drop in with a high-quality rotor and cap with brass terminals for great spark transfer. MSD recognized the need for a true marine performance distributor and built these Pro-Billet marine distributors to answer this need. Marine environments place rigorous demands on every component of the ignition system, especially the distributor. The combination of water spray, salt exposure, full throttle acceleration, and harsh vibrations all take their toll. The housing is CNC-machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum, creating a housing with no porosity or weak areas. Internally, a Tuftride coated steel shaft is guided by a sealed ball bearing and an extra-long sintered bushing for high-speed stability and endurance. Each distributor uses MSD's race-proven magnetic pickup to trigger the ignition control. The pickup receives its signal through a precision-manufactured reluctor that is attached to the shaft. The mechanical advance assembly receives a QPQ plating for long lasting resistance to corrosion in marine environments. Their mechanical advance assembly is easily adjustable, so you can dial-in an ignition curve to match your boat's application. Three additional sets of advance springs and stop bushings are included with detailed instructions, making adjustments easy to perform and understand. The distributor cap is bolted and sealed to the aluminum base, and has two flame arrestor holes with brass screens machined into the base of the distributor. This design works to prevent ignition of gas fumes that may build up in the engine compartment. A special weathertight connector is supplied to provide a positive lock and water-resistant connection. This heavy-duty connector will withstand high temperatures and water, and plugs directly into the MSD 6M-2 or 7M-2 ignitions. The distributors come complete with a high-quality, bolt-down alkyd cap and MSD's racing rotor. These high-quality distributors have been tested by the Underwriter's Laboratory, and are certified to meet or exceed safety standards for marine ignition systems as set by the U.S. Coast Guard. A vacuum advance canister provides improved economy, and the proven MSD mechanical advance mechanism allows you to dial in a timing curve to fit your needs. As always, an advance kit of springs and stop bushings is included. The housing features an all-billet 6061-T6 aluminum design for accuracy to within .001 in. Having a huge blower mounted on top of your engine is cool, but it can lead to limited choices for a distributor. The same goes for tri-power carburetor setups and big air cleaner assemblies, so MSD decided to morph their crab cap crank trigger distributor with a standard Chevy model to come up with a flat-top model! These MSD Flat-Top Pro-Billet distributors sit low in the engine block, and are topped with MSD's special crab cap that positions the spark plug terminals horizontally to give you plenty of clearance. These distributors incorporate a mechanical advance assembly that you can easily tune with the supplied springs and stop bushings. For trigger accuracy, a maintenance-free magnetic pickup is used.
