FAST XDi Sportsman distributors are designed to deliver the most accurate trigger signal possible throughout the entire rpm range of your race engine. This is accomplished through the use of an advanced Hall-effect style pickup, which is then converted to a signal that most CD ignition controls accept. The benefit of a Hall-effect pickup is: there is no retard, commonly called magnetic pickup compensation—so you can ensure your timing remains stable from idle to race rpm. FAST XFI driveshaft speed sensor kits measure driveshaft rpm to provide more accurate data for the traction control unit. Two magnets are fitted to the collar around the pinion yoke, which attaches to the driveshaft. When one of the magnets passes the pickup, it sends a signal to the XFI unit. They then use that signal to calculate both driveshaft rpm and driveshaft acceleration. As a result, these speed sensor kits provide much more precise readings, as opposed to determining driveshaft speed solely through variable engine rpm. FAST magnetic crank trigger kits are setting the new industry standard for timing accuracy while preserving compatibility with other brands' ignition systems. Crank triggers are known to provide the most accurate crankshaft rotation measurement; however, modern fuel injection systems and sophisticated testing equipment have exposed inadequacies in traditional crank trigger designs. To correct for timing fluctuations in high-rpm racing applications, FAST engineers replaced the fluctuation prone 2-wire inductive pick-up with a modern digital hall-effect design. This digital hall-effect pick-up, coupled with samarium cobalt magnets installed in the trigger wheel, result in crank rotation measurements that are accurate to a quarter of a degree from zero to 13,000 engine rpm. These pickups are far less susceptible to electromagnetic noise interference than 2-wire designs. Additionally, the pick-up accuracy is unaffected by electrical system voltage variations—maintaining quarter-degree timing accuracy from 7 V to 30 V DC. Outputting a clean square-wave signal, FAST magnetic crank trigger kits can trigger ignition boxes directly or integrate with EFI systems such as the FAST EZ-EFI 2.0, XFI Sportsman, and XFI 2.0.
