What are the advantages of a high-performance ignition system? A hotter, longer-duration spark provides more complete combustion for improved power and fuel economy. This is even more important on high-compression engines, or engines with power adders like a turbocharger, supercharger, or nitrous oxide. The increased cylinder pressure created under these conditions makes it more difficult for a spark to jump across the spark plug gap, and a weak or nonexistent spark will cause misfires, incomplete combustion, and hard starting.
