Racepak's Vehicle Network (V-Net) is a "smart data" transfer network able to transmit multiple signals from sensors over a single cable. The key to the V-Net system is the modular connectors that attach each of the devices to the main cable. For a function or component to be monitored on the V-Net, the signal from that device must pass through a sensor and its module (essentially a miniature computer) that identifies and retrieves only the proper incoming signals and allows other signals to pass through. The sensor measures the input from the function or component (i.e. rpm, pressure, temperature, etc.), while the module converts the signal so it can be transmitted over the V-Net. Racepak digital pre-programmed V-Net modules with sensors are programmed to collect specific data and are ready for plug-and-play installation on the V-Net cable. Racepak V-Net connector modules are used to convert the CAN data stream into a V-Net CAN bus data stream compatible with the Racepak V-Net system. This data is then available for use with the full range of Racepak V-net devices, including on-board displays, real-time telemetry, and data-logging applications. The Racepak V-Net connector modules provide setup capability to accommodate selection of scaling units, data-logging sample rates, and even custom sensor calibration.

When using a Racepak Pro Analog transducer box, Racepak plug-in, old-style, transducer modules are used to convert the input from various analog functions into signals that can be recognized by the recorder. Where required, a special cable is needed to connect the sensor to the transducer or signal conditioning module. For your data recorder to be able to monitor an analog channel it must receive a signal that it can recognize. The Racepak Module PT2 convert the analog parameters to a standard 0-5 volt signal required by the recorder. The transducer module (combination sensor and signal conditioning modules) provides direct connection to the measured parameter, such as fuel or oil pressure. The signal conditioning module allows the connection of remote sensors, such as thermocouples or position sensors, to the data recorder.
