Having a huge blower mounted on top of your engine is cool, but it can lead to limited choices for a distributor. The same goes for tri-power carburetor setups and big air cleaner assemblies, so MSD decided to morph their crab cap crank trigger distributor with a standard Chevy model to come up with a flat-top model! These MSD Flat-Top Pro-Billet distributors sit low in the engine block, and are topped with MSD's special crab cap that positions the spark plug terminals horizontally to give you plenty of clearance. These distributors incorporate a mechanical advance assembly that you can easily tune with the supplied springs and stop bushings. For trigger accuracy, a maintenance-free magnetic pickup is used. This pickup plugs directly into an MSD ignition control. MSD Pro-Billet distributors share the same CNC machining techniques as the rest of the MSD distributor line. They feature a housing that's machined from high-quality 6061-T6 aluminum for durability and show-quality looks. Their oversized shaft receives a QPQ coating for friction reduction and corrosion resistance, with the added strength of two sealed ball bearings that guide the shaft accurately at well over 10,000 rpm. An extra-long sintered bushing replaces the ball bearing at the bottom of Chevrolet models. TIG-welded on top of the polished steel shaft is MSD's accurate mechanical advance assembly. The weights are supported by nylon pads that allow the advance to operate smoothly throughout the rpm range. For all-out racing, the advance mechanism can also be easily locked out. To accurately trigger the ignition, a high-output magnetic pickup is bolted to the base. This pickup produces a precise trigger signal that will never vary more than one degree at any rpm. These coils utilize an iron U-Core design with a segmented bobbin for improved voltage distribution. The MSD Pro-Billet HEI distributors pick up where the originals left off. Drawing on years of high-performance ignition experience, MSD engineers created a unique ignition module and internal coil that are capable of running above 9,000 rpm. Stock and other aftermarket modules lose spark energy at about 4,500 rpm. These modules produce 50 percent more current than stock units, and deliver a much more precise timing signal as well as more dwell control. The coil delivers over 100 millijoules of energy across the plug gap. For strength and high rpm stability, the QPQ-treated oversized shaft is guided by a sealed ball bearing on top and long sintered bushing at the bottom. The QPQ coating provides a low-friction coating on the shaft and also makes it highly resistant to corrosion. TIG welded to the top of the shaft is an adjustable mechanical advance assembly. These cap and rotor kits from MSD are replacements for the 44 amp Pro Mags, or the 12 amp band clamp models. The caps are molded form alkyd material and have excellent high-voltage characteristics. Brass spark plug style terminals are used for solid connections and a firm grip to the plug wire terminal. The rotors are injection-molded from Dupont Rynite, a strong glass-reinforced material. Tall vanes are molded on the top of the rotors to stir up the air, preventing ozone buildup and crossfire from occurring. DIS-4 Plus HO digital ignitions are higher-output versions of the DIS ignition controls from MSD. They're designed for full race engines running high boost pressures from turbos, blowers, or nitrous. Their increased output will light up fuel mixtures even under these extreme cylinder pressures. Your late model distributorless ignition system will never be the same! The capacitive discharge ignitions feature multi-channel capability, complemented with multiple sparks, two rev limiters, and a timing control. These DIS ignitions are engineered with the latest in digital science, including power MOSFET technology and efficient IGBT coil drivers.
