Redcat Racing has been banging on the doors of the competition with the RDS 1:10 scale brushless electric 2WD competition Spec drift car. The RDS is ready to run and includes all the necessary radio gear and electronics to get you on the track quickly. Since battery size and weight are a tuning preference, the RDS does not include a battery or charger. It will accept a competition-style 2S shorty LiPo pack, LCG 2S shorty pack, or a standard-sized 2S stick pack. The RDS is a highly competitive RWD drift car that excels on surfaces which are found on many prepared RC drift tracks, such as carpet, P-tile, and polished concrete. The RDS can also be used on unpolished concrete and asphalt, though you may not get to experience its full potential on these rougher surfaces. The RDS includes a 2.4GHz radio system, 540 3300kv brushless motor, 60 amp brushless ESC, coreless digital Hexfly Drift-Spec steering servo, and a drift specific gyro. Gyros are a necessity on RWD drift cars, as they allow the driver to achieve true-to-scale door to door drift action. The included Hexfly GX-1 gyro automatically countersteers the car, enabling it to maintain a smooth arc through drifts. The Redcat Racing RDS Competition Spec RWD drift car is now available as an unassembled builders kit. It's intended for serious drifters who want to build a capable drift chassis that they can add all of their favorite electronics and 200mm body to, so it does not include a body, motor, ESC, radio system, steering servo, gyro, battery or charger. The RDS can be set up for three different battery sizes: a competition-style 2S shorty LiPo pack, LCG 2S shorty pack, or a standard-sized 2S stick pack. This kit is designed to produce a highly competitive RWD drift car that excels on surfaces which are found on many prepared RC drift tracks, such as carpet, P-Tile, and polished concrete. The RDS drift car can also be set up for unpolished concrete and asphalt. A competitive drift car must have a quality platform with predictable handling, so the driver knows what to expect from the car—and must also be tuneable to suit each driver's personal driving style, as well as different track conditions. The RDS excels in this area with its lightweight carbon fiber-based chassis, tight tolerances and complete adjustability. Everything on the RDS is adjustable including camber, caster, toe, Ackermann, roll center and center of gravity. The motor plate can be mounted in three different positions, altering the RDS's chassis roll and weight bias. This can be used to adjust the amount of traction and chassis roll the RDS has on different surfaces. --- The high mount rear motor location provides maximum rear weight and chassis roll, making it ideal for polished concrete and P-Tile. Having the motor almost directly over the rear axles allows for maximum traction without making the chassis too rear heavy. --- The mid-high motor location allows maximum roll, but moves the motor forward, in front of the rear axle. This provides slightly less traction in the rear of the RDS, while still maintaining chassis roll. --- The mid-low location minimizes chassis roll and gives the RDS a more balanced feel. This is perfect for high traction surfaces such as carpet or asphalt. Being able to fine tune your drift car's Ackermann is important because it directly affects corner speed. Having the Ackermann set correctly allows the RDS to maintain a perfect arc through the drift and also increases exit speed. With the right setting, the braking action of the chase wheel rotates the rear of the RDS around, setting the driver up for the next corner. Redcat made fine tuning Ackermann on the RDS easy by including multiple steering link positions, as well as a special sliding Ackermann plate. The RDS also has many other adjustments, including front and rear toe, font and rear camber, and front caster. The RDS kit is loaded with tuning capabilities and was designed for even the most competitive drifters. While the RDS kit is an advanced competition spec drift car, it's also the perfect choice for beginning drifters who want to start out by building a highly competitive drift car with little startup cost. Tom Prock and Jay Howell formed one of the most interesting and successful drag racing partnerships of the late 1960s. At the time, Howell was working at the famed Logge Stamping Company overseeing their shop. Logge was a very large volume producer of drag racing chassis at that time—and along with all of their other projects, a guy named Tom Prock had a 1933 Willys that he wanted updated. Instead of going the standard direction, the guys put a Logge funny car chassis under it and were quickly informed by NHRA officials at their first event that the car was not legal to run there or anywhere in the gas classes due to said chassis. They raced the car here and there in 1968 on the match race circuit and then figured it was all done. Then the phone rang in early 1969 and the boys decided to hitch up with a couple of other gassers, load a nitro burning 426 Hemi into the front of their car and travel the country as "outlaw gassers." The F-Troop '33 Willys is legend for wild runs with Howell at the wheel. The car went into the 180s and in various interviews, Howell said that the thing was a complete handful to get down the track at those speeds. We can only imagine. This 1:18 scale Acme diecast model commemorates the legendary 1933 Gasser built and raced by Prock and Howell. For most of its 40 years, the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454 LS6 has been doing exactly what it was built to do: tear up the drag strip. Along the way, it's become arguably the most famous drag racing Chevelle ever, capturing the SS/DA class record in 1972 and setting an elapsed time of 10:75 at 123 mph on the way to winning Top Eliminator 14 of 16 events at Bradenton Dragway in Florida in 1976. Purchased new by A/FX racer Bob Hamilton as a Valentine's Day gift to his wife, the big-block beast was soon spending its Sundays at the local drag strip with Hamilton at the wheel. Sponsored by AMT and dubbed "Red Alert," it began its long and extremely successful career in 1971, setting the SS/DA national record during the 1972 season and owning the track record at New Jersey's Island Dragway for over two years. Hamilton sold "Red Alert" in 1976 to racer Terry Carney who, in 1990, partnered with Bill and Jan Stephenson to reintroduce the car to a new generation of fans and a new career in popular nostalgia drag racing. The car has since run the quarter mile in the low tens at over 130 mph. A true drag racing legend in every sense, the "Red Alert" Chevelle has always been expertly maintained and remains in splendid condition. It is almost entirely as Hamilton raced it, retaining its original sheet metal and interior and most of its original Cranberry Red paint.
