Shift boot retainer screws, like the ones from The Stop Shop, offer several benefits, particularly when upgrading your manual transmission shift knob. Retainer screws serve to secure the shift boot to the shifter base, thus, eliminating gaps between the boot and the shifter. They also ensure the shift knob is aligned correctly with the shift lever and help prevent the shift knob from becoming loose due to vibration.
