DEI titanium exhaust wrap with LR technology is constructed from pulverized lava rock, extruded into fibers, and then woven into a tight weave, giving it titanium-like strength and toughness. The improvement in thermal protection helps to reduce underhood temperatures, resulting in cooler air intake for improved performance. Typical glass fiber wrap is rated at handling 1,200 degrees F of maximum direct heat, while DEI's titanium wrap, using LR technology, is capable of handling direct continuous heat up to 1,800 degrees F and radiant heat up to 2,800 degrees F. Funk Motorsports offers turbo heat shields for a wide range of (universal) applications, as well as vehicle-specific models for select BMW, Honda, Ford, and Subaru vehicles from 2002 and up. These turbo and/or turbo wastegate thermal blankets work to insulate the hot side and retain the heat within the exhaust gasses themselves. Hotter gasses accelerate faster, leading to them leaving the system sooner—improving spool up and throttle response.
