These washers feature super-hardened teeth on the outer surfaces that bite into both the bolt head bottoms and the flange top surfaces when tightened. They further increase their locking power with interfacing, matching cams that cause a wedge-locking action. This means any bolt-loosening vibrations will actually secure the bolt even more by causing further constriction between the washers. By implementing tension instead of friction, these fasteners actually benefit from contact with oil.
